The safety and security of our state and nation is the number one responsibility of government. As a member of various committees dealing with homeland security, she has worked tirelessly to improve the security and public safety of our citizens.
Gayle passed ground breaking legislation dealing with tightening security in Florida’s 14 public ports prior to 9/11. This legislation has since become a national model.
Following hurricanes, Charlie, Francis, Ivan, and Jeanne Gayle convened a multi-county Task Force to find ways to better meet the needs of our citizens during and after any disaster, natural or man made.
She passed legislation to streamline the emergency management system, retrofit public hurricane shelters, increase public preparedness education programs and improve our Special Needs Shelters for our medically fragile seniors.
