Public Safety

She has served on the Governor’s Drug Advisory Committee and has been the sponsor of many bills to stop drug abuse. She sought ways to stop “doctor shopping” prescription forgery and the illegal sale of prescriptions by unscrupulous practitioners while addressing patient privacy concerns. This year she passed legislation to use e-prescribing as a tool to empower physicians to make appropriate prescribing decisions for their patients.

Stopping drunk driving and getting repeat offenders off the road has been one of Gayle’s priorities in the Florida House of Representatives. She has passed legislation to make it easier for law enforcement to get DUI records from other states. Gayle also passed a law to require that repeat offenders install interlock devices in their vehicles to prevent vehicles from starting when the driver has been drinking. She was recognized as the Legislator of the Year Award by Mothers Against Drunk Drinking for her work in getting drunk drivers off the road.
